Dushi Bonaire: Restaurants to satisfy that sweet tooth

In all honesty, Bonaire is a stellar travel destination any day of the year, but while there are many obvious benefits to visiting the island during its peak travel season,  there’s a pretty good argument to be made for traveling when tourism isn’t at its peak. The months of April to October are considered Bonaire’s off-peak dates, but as we are about to reveal, they are also the best dates to travel to the island.

  • Ice Cream Shops

If you want to keep things simple, you can’t go wrong with a scoop (or two!). Ice cream is a popular choice no matter how old you are. And what better than an icy treat to cool you down a little as you soak up that great Caribbean weather.

Gio's Ice Cream and Luciano’s are both excellent options when it comes to getting your dessert fix for the day. With dozens of flavors to choose from, you’ll be spoilt for choice. And if ice cream isn’t really your vibe, why not perk up with a little coffee as you watch the world go by.

    Sebastian's

For a taste of Italy in Bonaire, head to Sebastian’s. You’ll be transported to Rome in an instant in this beautiful Italian themed restaurant. Enjoy an authentic home-cooked Italian meal and top it off with that Italian favorite, Tiramisu, for a little bit of Dolce Vita. Honestly, their recipe is decadent and as light as air - you really can’t go wrong!

    Cuba Compagnie

Located in the main square in downtown Bonaire, you’ll find an island favorite - Cuba Compagnie. Popular with tourists and locals alike, this is a brilliant option if you want a unique dessert experience.

The Smoked Chocolate Cuban Cigar featuring a silky mousse made from smoke Valrhona Caraibe 66% chocolate and served with edible vanilla ashes and homemade sorbet, this is definitely one for Instagram!

  • Between Two Buns

Don’t leave Bonaire without treating yourself to lunch at the island’s famous sandwich cafe - Between Two Buns. In addition to their mouthwatering gourmet sandwiches, you’ll find an enticing display of desserts on offer. Go tropical and try their Mango or Passionfruit cheesecake , it is guaranteed to heighten your island experience.

    Food Trucks

For a little grab-and-go treat, be sure to check out Bonaire’s food truck offerings. The Cactus Blue Food Wagon is known for its famous Lionfish burger but the ‘Flamingo Droppings’ will take al-fresco dining to the next level.

    Dutch Delicacies

The Dutch have a long history and a strong presence on the island of Bonaire. This is never more evident than through the island’s food offerings. Go Dutch and treat yourself to a little " appel taart ". Don’t be mistaken, this is no standard apple pie. It’s actually a rich buttery pastry with a lattice topping featuring thinly sliced apples and raisins.  Stroopwafels, thin wafers with a soft syrupy center are another great Dutch delicacies. You’ll find these treats in restaurants and supermarkets across the island.

  • For A Taste Of Bonaire

You wouldn’t want to come all the way to the Caribbean and not try the local delicacies. Bolo Pretu, a moist fruity black rum cake and Quesillo, a creme brulee type treat are the most popular island offerings. The best place to get your hands on these authentic desserts would be in a local family home, but if you aren’t that lucky many of the island’s Chinese supermarkets stock them too.

And finally... Something for the road

When it finally comes time to say goodbye to island life and head home, why not stock up on some sugary delights for loved ones back home (or for the journey, if you get peckish!)? Named after one of Bonaire’s top dive sites ‘Something Special’, Something Sweet is a classic European sweet shop that'll take you back to yesteryear . Here you’ll have your pick of macaroons, chocolate bonbons and more. Tuck in at home and revisit fond vacation memories from Bonaire.

There you have the island’s best dessert spots, so be sure to save space! We can’t wait to welcome you to Sand Dollar Bonaire and introduce you to all the sweetness in our beautiful home, Dushi Bonaire!
