About Bonaire

  • How do I get here?

    The majority of visitors to Bonaire arrive by direct flight.  KLM and TUI fly regularly from Amsterdam.  United, Delta and American have direct flights. Interisland hopping is also possible with Divi Divi Air and EZ Air. Ferry services are not available between Bonaire and Aruba, Curacao or Venezuela.

  • Where can I pay the Visitor Entry Tax before arriving on Bonaire?

    All visitors to Bonaire must pay an Entry Tax. No more than one week before your vacation, pay your tax online here.

  • Where can I pay the Bonaire nature fee online?

    All users of Bonaire waters, as well as visitors to the Washington Slagbaai National Park, must pay a Nature fee here.

  • Where can I find information about the most up -to date covid entry regulations?

    Visit www.bonairecrisis.com for up-to-date covid entry regulations, as well as the current covid situation on the island.

  • What languages are spoken on Bonaire?

    Although Dutch and Papiamentu are the official languages of Bonaire, both English and Spanish are widely spoken.

  • What is the currency, and what credit cards are widely accepted?

    The US dollar is the official currency on Bonaire. There is a bank with a 24-hour ATM next door to Sand Dollar, as well as a number of other banks with ATM’s located conveniently around the island. 

    Credit cards are widely accepted with Visa and Mastercard being the most common.  There are numerous places on island that do not accept American Express.

  • What is the weather like on Bonaire?

    Warm and sunny!  The average temperature year round is about 83F / 29C.  The climate is usually very dry.  The rainy season lasts for three months and usually runs from the beginning of October to the end of  December.  Although it does rain, it's not usually all day, every day.  Bonaire is outside of the hurricane belt and a safe place to visit during the summer hurricane season months.

  • Is the tap water drinkable?

    Yes! Bonaire’s fresh water comes from the salty ocean after going through a desalination process.  It is some of the purest and safest water sources in the world to drink, so there is no reason to purchase bottled water. We encourage all guests to bring their own reusable water bottles. 

  • What are the driving conditions on Bonaire?

    Driving is on the right-hand side of the road and follows international road signs. Be prepared to share the roads with pedestrians, cyclists, and animals such as donkeys and goats.

  • Where can I find a year-long event calendar?

    You can find a year-long event calendar on the website of the  Tourism Corporation Bonaire.

About Sand Dollar - The Apartment

  • Do I have an ocean view from my apartment?

    Yes, all the Sand Dollar apartments are oceanfront and offer ocean views!

  • May I request a specific apartment, building, or floor level?

    Yes, you can! We’ll make a special note on your reservation of the request and inform you of the availability at the time of making the reservation. While every effort is made to accommodate these requests, if there is a maintenance issue, you will be notified that you need to be moved. There is a $10 / night fee for a specific apartment request that is waived for any direct booking.

  • Are the apartments fully air-conditioned?

    Yes! While built to capture the flow of the naturally cooling trade winds, all apartments are fully air-conditioned, both in the bedrooms and living area.

  • What appliances are provided in the kitchen?

    The kitchens offer a full-sized refrigerator, stove, and oven and dishwasher.  Small appliances provided include a microwave, blender, toaster, and standard coffee maker.  Each apartment has a full set of dishes, cutlery, cooking pots, pans, utensils, and much more!

  • Is housekeeping provided?

    Yes! Housekeeping service is provided complimentary midweek during a one-week vacation; midweek and end of the week for longer stays. You are requested to vacate the apartment during the service. Additional services can be provided upon request. Towels can also be exchanged as needed at the Front Office.

  • Are toiletries provided?

     In an effort to minimize disposable plastic usage, we do not supply small toiletries. We do provide hand soap but please bring your own shampoo and other personal items. 

  • Will I need to bring an electric adapter for the wall sockets?

    The apartments are mainly wired for US standard plugs. Many of the apartments also have 220 (European) available in the kitchen or a power bar with USB ports. Adapters are also available at the Front Office.

  • Can I get early check in or late check out?

    Check-in time: 4:00 pm. If an apartment is ready we will gladly allow an earlier check-in, however, this can not be guaranteed in advance.


    Check-out Time: 11:00 am. If you require a guaranteed late check out a fee will be applied. Otherwise you may request it during your stay and we will do our best to accomodate.

  • What speed is the internet and is it secure?

    Each apartment has its own wi-fi box with a private password. The internet provider is Flamingo TV, and the bandwidth is 20 Down / 4 Up (Mbps). The internet is very reliable and speedy.

  • Are beach towels provided?

    Yes! Beach towels are kept at the front office and guests can exchange them for fresh ones any time!

About Sand Dollar - The Property

  • How to I travel to Sand Dollar from the airport?

    The airport is approximately a 15-to-20-minute drive, passing through Kralendijk.  Click here for directions.  Taxis are available at the airport and generally cost $20 per trip.

  • Is there a beach?

    Yes! We have a small, exclusive sandy beach.  The remainder of the property is set above sea level and there are several areas along the sea wall with sun decks  with lounge chairs for comfortable sunning or sunset viewing.

  • Is there a restaurant?

    While there is not a restaurant belonging to Sand Dollar, there are two accessible directly from the property and several more within minutes walking distance.


    Eddy’s Restaurant (also offers their pool and tennis courts free of charge to all Sand Dollar guests), opening hours vary.


    Breezes N’ Bites, accessed via private walkway,  offers ocean front dining for lunch and dinner.


    In the Mini-Mall on the road side of the complex is the “Panino” Rstaurant offering lunch.  Next door to Panino is Crispy Chicken, a "fast food" restaurant that also serves ice cream.  


    Across the road we have Zen Cafe and The Doner Station, and there are a couple Chinese Restaurants within a very short walking distance.


    Delivery: If you are craving restaurant food but don’t want to leave the comfort of your porch, the folks at Dinner in a Box will bring lunch or dinner from a wide range of local restaurants to you!

  • Is there a pool onsite?

    No.  However, accessible via a private walkway from the parking lot side of the property is Eddy’s Restaurant.  They offer a large pool with sunbeds free of charge for Sand Dollar guests to use.

  • Are there laundry facilities on site?

    No, however, Caribbean Laundry is only 5 minutes away.  You can do self-serve (same day) or drop off (two days), or have us deliver them for you (three days).  Prices are very reasonable with a bag of tropical clothing costing about $20.

  • Is there someone available 24/7 for maintenance issues or for concierge requests?

    Our Front Office is open from 8 am to 5 pm and is happy to help with any request.  Upon arrival, you are provided with an emergency after-hours number to call as needed.

  • Are there security personnel working at Sand Dollar?

    Yes. For your peace of mind, Sand Dollar has uniformed, private security on duty during the night. The property is gated and you are provided with a gate fob for ease of entrance during your stay.

  • Where is the closest supermarket?

    The closest supermarket is Zung Kong Supermarket . When you come out of the property, turn to your left and after a 10-minute walk you will see it on your right.
