Bonaire Fresh Fish Treasure Hunt

Bonaire Fresh Fish Treasure Hunt

When you’re surrounded by the ocean, it’s natural to want to enjoy the bounty of the sea… fresh fish! Of course, most restaurants will serve a tasty meal, but if you want to take advantage of the Sand Dollar facilities (and view), think about going on an adventure and purchasing some fresh fish to cook yourselves. You can usually ask for it to be filleted by your talented fisherman, and the price is generally about under $10 per portion.

Along the Boulevard

Take a walk along the Boulevard around sunset.  At this time of day the fishermen are returning and can often be seen cleaning their fish in front of the restaurant It Rains Fishes. Enjoy a chat and make a purchase to cook for dinner.

  • Daisy (our Sand Dollar connection)

Daisy delivers! Call her (she speaks English) at 785-0563 and give her an idea of what type of fish and how much you are looking for. You can also ask for it to be filleted. She will deliver usually between 4 pm to 6 pm. It is best to call her back after 5 pm to confirm the fishermen were successful.

You can also visit her home at Kaya Blenchi #4, Nikkiboko, the best time is the afternoon about 4 pm.

Drive down to the roundabout at Van den Tweel Supermarket. At the roundabout, take the Eastern exit.  You’ll immediately pass Sonny Bar on your right. You’ll continue and see Kaya Pos di Amor, 3rd street on your left. Go past and continue to the next street, Kaya Avelino J Cecelia, turn left onto this street. Continue and you will pass Panaderia Seruvia. Stop in for fresh bread at this great bakery! Just after the bakery, on your left, is Kaya Blenchi.  Kaya Blenchi is a one way street. Turn onto this street and look for #4 on your right.  This is Daisy’s home.

    Zarpin

Check out Zarpin. This is a local family of fishermen who opened a small shop in their home. It is close to Daisy’s house. Again, start at the roundabout by Van den Tweel Supermarket. Take the Southern exit towards Sorobon. About 2 minutes down the road, on your right is Zarpin. If you reach the soccer field and baseball park, you have gone too far.

    Kaminda Lac #18, Tera Kora

    Opening hours: Monday - Friday 8:30 am - 12:30 pm, 3 pm-6 pm.

    Closed Saturday / Sunday.

  • Jan Tutti

Kaya Falkon, Tera Cora, the best time is the afternoon about 4 pm.

Again, start at the Van den Tweel Supermarket. At the roundabout, take the Eastern exit. You’ll immediately pass Sonny Bar on your right. Take the second left, this should be kaya Kondor. Almost immediately take the first left onto kaya Falcon. On your right you will see the house of Jan Tutti who may have fresh fish. Just past the house is a boat in the yard.
